During day 2 of our first Jax Ale Trail review adventure, we ended with Fishweir Brewing Company and fell in love with the brewery and the neighborhood it is in, Murray Hill. Fishweir is situated in a cute little downtown area that greets you with a giant mural of Bill Murray, perfectly capturing the vibe of Murray Hill in Jacksonville, Florida.
Mena and I both agree that Fishweir Brewing Company has the most aesthetically pleasing tap room of every brewery we’ve been to. From the overall layout to the amazing beer taps, the person that designed it should definitely get a raise.
In addition to the amazing tap room, Fishweir also has “The Backyard” which is their enormous beer garden out back. Go out and enjoy some of their tasty beer or join in on the fun with one of their many events that they host out back – movie nights and kid’s day with bounce houses are just a few of the events that Fishweir hosts.
I can’t fail to mention that they also have lawn chairs for you to take out back if there are no tables available to sit – this is such a simple idea but it is brilliant!
Alright, I know this is supposed to be all about the beer and we will dive into that, we just fell in love with the brewery and had to show off all of the features.
Fishweir Brewing Company Beer
Fishweir has a great selection of beer on tap and has something for everyone – whether you are into hazy IPAs or hard seltzers, there is something for you to sip on!
The tap list is also quite different as they have little posters hanging on the wall of every beer they have on tap – it isn’t anything crazy but Mena and I both like their different approach to displaying all of the beers available to drink. We’ve found that sometimes the typical chalkboard signs are a bit hard to read so this is a cool way to show off what can be ordered.
During our visit we decided to get a beer flight as that was the easiest way to try what Fishweir had to offer, check out the beers we had below:
Fishweir Fizz
- Type: Hard Seltzer
- ABV: 5%
I appreciate a light hard seltzer to cut through all of the super hoppy IPAs – Fishweir delivered with their seltzer that rotates in flavor.
Tim
King of the Hill
- Type: Hazy IPA
- ABV: 7.2%
Smooth and crushable, even at 7.2% – this one could get dangerous as it goes down way too easily!
Tim
Hasta La Vista, Hazy
- Type: Hazy IPA
- ABV: 8%
Another hazy and while most may be sick of them at this point, Fishweir does them really well and we enjoyed all three of them we tasted in our beer flight. I would happily drink any of their IPAs on any day of the week.
Tim
Danger Zone
- Type: Double Hazy IPA
- ABV: 8.8%
While the highest ABV that we tried, this double hazy was delicious and my favorite of the day. It also helps that it references Top Gun, which is in my top 5 favorite movies of all time.
Tim
In addition to having beer on tap, Fishweir also sells cans to go in the tap room and you can find their beer on draft at local bars, such as Publix Pours, as well as bottle shops around Jacksonville, Florida.
Spa Day
- Type: Sour Ale with Cucumber
- ABV: 5.2%
Our internet at home went out so we had to go to Publix Pours to work for the day and this beer was excellent. After dealing with the stress of no internet at home and trying to work, this refreshing and light beer was the perfect pick-me-up.
Tim
Pho-Get About It
- Type: Sour Ale with Vietnamese Spices
- ABV: 5.4%
I bought a can of this at Beer:30 in San Marco and while it looks insane, a beer that is supposed to resemble pho, the taste is incredible. I could drink this every day!
Tim
I stand by my statement that Fishweir Brewing Company has the nicest brewery out of all the ones we’ve been to. In addition to that, their beer is great and the Murray Hill neighborhood is a fun place to go and visit all the little shops – if you haven’t done so already, please go and visit both Fishweir and the Murray Hill neighborhood!
