When we heard Brazas Chicken was opening in St. Augustine we were super excited to try and review a new Peruvian spot up in North Florida – afterall, we are Peruvian food addicts! I must admit that our first trip to Brazas the first week they opened was not great and we held off on writing a review until they had been open a few months to work out the kinks.
I am happy to say that those kinks have been worked out as we just went back to Brazas and it was delicious – talk about a huge sigh of relief as we were rooting for this Peruvian spot to succeed.
Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, let’s dig into the food review from our latest visit.
Brazas Chicken Food
Pollo a la Brasa is hard to come by and it is one of Mena’s favorite Peruvian dishes so of course we are going to be hyper critical when we order it at any Peruvian restaurants that we review – I am the same way when it comes to Chicha Morada as I am now a chicha snob.
The menu at Brazas Chicken is diverse and has quite a few options that are typical for Peruvian restaurants to serve – no anticuchos is kind of a bummer and no homemade chicha morada will deduct a few points from the score because the bottled kind just isn’t the same.
Below you will find the food we ordered when we revisited Brazas Chicken for our official review:
Chicha Morada
Out of the bottle so that automatically gets points deducted but it isn’t bad, a little too sweet for me but on par with other bottled versions I’ve had.

Papa a la Huancaina
Miles better than the first week of opening when we tried this dish. The sauce was superb and the potatoes were cooked to perfection!

¼ Chicken (Pollo a la Brasa)
You must try the pollo a la brasa when you go to Brazas Chicken as it is really good! Is it the best in North Florida? It is hard to beat Los Andes Restaurant but this is a worthy contender – the seasoning is spot on and the chicken is super moist!
Mena
Jalea
I love Jalea and this was some of the best I’ve ever had. The breading on the fish was delicious and the onions that accompanied this dish were incredible. I highly recommend asking for the rocoto sauce to dip this in after you squirt the lime all over it and I promise you will agree that this dish is amazing. Tip: Leave the fried yuca for last as it is quite filling and you want to enjoy all of the fish that you get!
Tim
Will we be going back to Brazas Chicken to try more dishes in the future? 1000%!! If you are ever in St. Augustine, Florida and are looking for some traditional Peruvian food then you must stop in and give this place a try.
