Hyperion Brewing Company was our third stop of the day in the historic Springfield neighborhood of Jacksonville, Florida and one of five breweries left to review on the Jax Ale Trail. I must go into this by saying that unfortunately the owners of Hyperion announced that they will be closing their doors soon (~ March 2024) to take care of their growing family.
That being said, I am glad we were able to visit Hyperion Brewing Company before they closed as it really is an amazing space with excellent beer. I wish we had the money to take it over as it really does make a perfect brewery spot.
While we were there, I decided to check out the infamous Helios Beer Garden which lived up to the hype – it really doesn’t feel like you are right in the middle of downtown while you are out there – again, perfect location for a brewery.
Ok, I know you are all here to read about the beer we had so let’s dive into what we tried during our visit.
Hyperion Brewing Company Beer
Hyperion had several beers on tap and covered a lot of different styles so everyone that visits should have something they’d like to try.
I went with a beer flight and tried out a few different styles of beer instead of going with all IPAs like I did at the previous two breweries. Check out the four different beers we tried below:
Kronos
- Type: Double IPA
- ABV: 7.8%
I believe this was my first Double IPA of the day and it was a great beer – super smooth and rather dangerous at 7.8%!
Tim
Berry Cello
- Type: IPA (Helios Brewer’s Experience)
- ABV: NA
This IPA was brewed as a part of the Helios Brewer’s Experience in which you can pay to go and brew a beer with the brewer(s) of Hyperion. I am so bummed I didn’t hear about this experience earlier as this is a solid IPA and I would’ve loved to brew up my own beer!
Tim
Selene Citrine
- Type: Blonde Ale with Blood Orange
- ABV: 5.4%
Loved this beer as it was super crushable and the blood orange was super refreshing.
Tim
Seltzer du Jour (Lemon Lime)
- Type: Hard Seltzer with Lemon Lime
- ABV: 4.5%
It looks like Sprite and pretty much tasted like one with alcohol in it – not my favorite of the day but not bad by any means.
Tim
Helios Beer Garden
As mentioned above, the Helios Beer Garden transports you to another world once you step out back of Hyperion Brewing Company. You’d never know you just came from a busy downtown street – it is the perfect beer garden and event space as well.
Of course, while you are enjoying your great beer out back, there are some ground rules to follow in the beer garden. I mean, nothing too crazy, “no throwing rocks” should be common sense but I guess they have to mention it.
I’d definitely try to get to Hyperion Brewing Company before they close to enjoy a tasty beer outside in the Helios Beer Garden – the weather has been perfect here in North Florida so now is the time!
All in all I am super happy we got to visit Hyperion before they shut their doors in a month or so. I really hope someone worthy of the space takes it over and doesn’t let that amazing space go to waste. Heck, maybe someone related to or close with the current owners will take it over and carry on their good brews. Regardless, you all should really make your way to the historic Springfield neighborhood of Jacksonville, Florida and go support Hyperion!
