Are you looking for exquisite Peruvian food and an intimate dining experience? Llama Restaurant in St. Augustine, Florida is the place to go – we just celebrated our anniversary there and had a fantastic time.
The restaurant itself is small but that is what makes it amazing. I made reservations a week in advance because they only have seating for 28 people and are only open a few hours per night to focus on offering a consistently mouth-watering dinner each and every service. It’s worth noting here that Llama Restaurant is Reservation-Only.
I could go on a lot more to praise the super-friendly staff that was always attentive but let’s dive into what everyone is here for, the food!
Llama Restaurant Food
Mena and I decided to try as much as we could eat so we went with: 2 drinks, 2 appetizers, 1 entree split between the two of us, and then 2 desserts – we left full but not to the point where we felt uncomfortable.
Let’s break down everything we had at Llama Restaurant with our reviews of each item below:
Chichamosa
Yes, they made chicha morada fancy by creating a mimosa inspired by my favorite drink. Mena and I both ordered one because we wanted a cocktail and we were curious how this would taste. We enjoyed it but it is nothing like a good glass of chicha morada – I am a snob when it comes to chicha morada so while this is a fun idea, I will definitely stick to the non-alcoholic good stuff.

Ceviche Lima
From the presentation to the little story our waitress told us about the ceviche representing the coast of Lima overlooking the Pacific Ocean, this dish was incredible. Mena and I ate every last drop of it and will definitely be going back for more

Anticuchos
We saw this fancy presentation of Anticuchos on Instagram and had to see if it tasted as good as it looked. Mena and I have tried a lot of anticuchos from different restaurants and this is by far one of the best we’ve had – the Panca pepper aioli was incredible and the beef hearts were cooked to perfection!
Tim
Pisco Verde
Our waitress brought us over a little cocktail of pisco and I believe some sort of cactus juice but I am not really sure. All I know is that this was a great shot to cleanse the pallet and whatever it was, Mena and I wanted more!

Mar Y Tierra
For our entrée, Mena and I decided to go with the Peruvian twist on surf and turf and boy are we glad we did. They had no issue splitting the dish into two plates and it was just the right amount of food for the both of us – the lomo saltado and shrimp were perfect and the Huancaina sauce was top-notch.”
Tim
Maracuya Tres Leches
Don’t let the whole potted plant facade fool you, this dessert was sweet and tart and just what we needed to end our dinner date. I usually don’t go for sweet desserts but this was an exception as the cake smothered in tres leches and passion fruit worked so well together.
Tim
Sacred Valley
After our waitress burned some eucalyptus to set the scene for this dessert, Mena and I dug right in. The presentation on the piece cacao pod was a nice touch and both the lucuma puree and cacao mousse were to die for. If I had one request it would be to add a bit more lucuma but that’s just personal preference.
Tim
I could not have asked for a better meal to celebrate our anniversary. The food was some of the best Peruvian we’ve ever had and that’s saying a lot. Mena and I definitely recommend going to Llama Restaurant for a date night or special occasion as it is a bit pricey but it’s definitely worth every penny – the unique spins on classic Peruvian dishes, amazing staff and intimate setting make this one of our new favorites and we will definitely be going back!
