Xim and myself are constantly on the hunt for Peruvian restaurants to chow down on her homeland’s food. Much to my surprise, I found Peru Wok Cuisine which is 2 minutes down the street from my place in Jupiter, Florida. Let’s get down to what you are waiting for, the review!
Upon entering Peru Wok you are immediately greeted by the friendly staff and immersed with flair from across Peru. Service was extremely quick and our waitress was super attentive when getting our drink orders in – the chicha morada is to die for!
I will get to the overall menu in a second but I must mention the bread that comes to the table – these dinner rolls are soft, warm and just heavenly overall, plus they infuse the butter with aji amarillo (yellow peruvian pepper) which we have only seen at Peru Wok Cuisine.
After sipping on our chicha morada and downing the freshly baked rolls, it was time to order our appetizers, entrees and dessert. If you are not familiar with the different Peruvian dishes on the menu, the waitress or waiter has an iPad that they will bring over to show you pictures of all the dishes – we thought this was an amazing idea!
For this review we will be talking about a few different visits to Peru Wok as the first time we only ordered appetizers and dessert while the next few trips we ordered entrees, appetizers and desserts – every visit was equally as amazing.
Peru Wok Cuisine Meal Review:
Peru Wok Cuisine (Video)
Anticuchos (Appetizer)
Anticuchos is by far my favorite Peruvian dish and Peru Wok Cuisine did not disappoint. Please do not be alarmed when you see ‘beef hearts’ on the menu because the Peruvian panca sauce and tenderness of the meat makes this dish absolutely incredible.
Tim
Choritos a la Chalaca (Appetizer)
While I am not a huge fan of mussels, this Peruvian dish is quite refreshing. The fresh onions, tomatoes, and corn made this dish a winner in my books.
Tim
Causa de Pollo (Appetizer)
A close second in the “Favorite Peruvian Dish” category is causa. Ximena and I decided to go with the pollo (chicken) variation and it gets an 8/10 when it comes to Causa. This is the one Peruvian dish I know how to make so I am extra critical when it comes to this mashed potato, Peruvian yellow pepper and meat salad deliciousness.
Tim
Causa Acevichada (Appetizer)
Who doesn’t like ceviche? I had never tried it sitting atop the tasty Peruvian mashed potatoes and I am so happy that I did – this dish is super tasty but I still prefer the chicken or tuna variation of causa.
Tim
Leche de Tigre (Appetizer)
Peru Wok Cuisine has a great leche de tigre lunch special and you can’t beat it – this dish consists of ceviche with crunchy canchitas served in a glass.
Tim
Papa A La Huancaina (Appetizer)
Huancaina sauce is Xim’s favorite sauce and I completely understand why. This dish is quite simple but it is a great way to start a meal – you can’t go wrong with potatoes drenched in a Peruvian yellow pepper sauce so this is a must try.
Tim
Chaufa de Pollo (Entrée)
A very different Chaufa de Pollo from other places, very tasty and topped with sesame seeds…yummy!
Xim
Pollo Saltado (Entrée)
I usually order and prefer to eat Lomo Saltado but this time I decided to try the chicken as it was an option from the Lunch menu and it was good.
Xim
Pescado a la Chorrillana (Entrée)
A very juicy fried fish fillet with onions, tomatoes, and white rice to complement this dish from the Lunch specials menu. You have to try this dish if you are a fish/seafood lover like I am.
Xim
Tallarines a la Huancaina con Lomo (Entrée)
I’ve tried this dish at different Peruvian restaurants in South Florida, but Peru Wok Cuisine takes the crown on this one. The best Tallarin a la Huacaina con Lomo in town with a creamy huancaina sauce and tender steak.
Xim
Flan (Dessert)
Flan is a very traditional dessert in most Latin American countries, but the Peruvian style has a special flavor. We had to give it a try and it did not disappoint.
Xim
Lucuma Cheesecake (Dessert)
Lucuma is one of my favorite fruits and this restaurant had a Lucuma dessert which was this cheesecake and of course we had to try. The texture, flavor and portion were on point.
