Mena and I have been excited to try Maracuya by Llama ever since we heard that it was opening. Our anniversary dinner at Llama Restaurant was incredible so we could not wait to give their newest venture, Maracuya by Llama, a proper review.
Upon arrival we fell in love with the cute little house in St. Augustine that has now transformed into a quaint little Peruvian coffee spot. Once we entered it looked just as cozy as you’d think from the outside and we were immediately greeted and honestly felt like we were at home.
Once you turn the corner from the entrance and main counter, there is a little area with tables and a couch for you to enjoy your coffee, juice and/or food that you ordered.
Mena loved the fact that they also have a variety of Peruvian books on hand for you to read while getting your morning caffeine fix.
Maracuya by Llama Coffee & Juice
The coffee and tea menu above has your traditional go-tos but then there is also a menu of specialties, pictured below, which Mena and I ordered from. Let’s not forget the juice that is also available to eat inside or to grab to-go – they have homemade chicha morada which is my favorite Peruvian drink by a mile.
Let’s take a look at the coffees and juices that we ordered while we visited Maracuya by Llama for the first time:
Pistachio D Mocha
I’m a sucker for pistachio flavored drinks and loved this in the iced version – the pistachio whipped cream was delightful.

Algarrobina Latte
Simply amazing! This had the perfect amount of algarrobina in that it didn’t overpower the coffee with sweetness.

Chicha Morada
I am a chicha snob and this was just how I like it – not too sweet and just the right amount of spices! This is definitely one of my top 3 chichas I’ve ever tried!
Tim
Maracuya (Passion Fruit) Juice
I’ve had my fair share of maracuya juice which is my favorite in Peru and this was just the way I like it – not too tart and not too sweet. Perfection!

Maracuya by Llama Food
Don’t worry if you want to grab a bite to eat to go along with your drink as Maracuya has a nice selection of breakfast snacks and desserts to choose from. While the selection rotates daily, you can choose from a different flavor of empanada, some sweet treats such as the maracuya cheesecake or a variety of cakes and breads.
We also cannot overlook that they have canchita, which is an insanely addicting Peruvian popcorn snack, packaged up to buy and they also have a little selection of candy from Peru – this is a nice touch in addition to everything else offered on the main menu.
Enough of me going on about what they offer, let’s take a look at the food items we ordered during our visit:
Steak Classico Empanada
While we were not able to score one of the lomo saltado empanadas from a few days before, this steak empanada was delicious. The steak was super tender and the hard boiled egg inside was a welcomed surprise, not to mention the dipping sauce was perfect. I’m definitely looking forward to trying out more flavors of their empanadas in the future.
Tim
Egg Salad Croissant with Mushrooms
Holy smokes, this croissant at maracuya is leagues above any other egg salad sandwiches I’ve had and I’d gladly eat this every morning if I could.
Tim
Mena and I are so glad that Maracuya by Llama is finally open for business. While we are a good 15 minutes away, we are definitely going to frequent this hip little coffee spot in St. Augustine. I highly recommend stopping in to try one of their specialty coffees and pick up a snack while you are there – you will not be disappointed.
Also, if you are looking for a good date night spot then I suggest making reservations at Llama Restaurant – their elevated approach to Peruvian cuisine is out of this world!
