Congaree and Penn has been on our radar since we started the Jax Ale Trail and was going to be our last stop to review as it is about an hour away from us. That is until we saw they were hosting their annual Boos and Brews event at their farm – Ollie’s first pumpkin patch and homemade cider to sip on?! Sign Me Up!
We arrived at the farm a little before 11 a.m. and there was already a line to get into the Boos and Brews event but it went quickly. Our first stop was the welcome center to grab a map of the farm and of course we had to get two different ciders to try.
After a quick bathroom break in Congaree and Penn’s restaurant / bar, which is amazing by the way, it was time to explore the farm and winery. The weather was absolutely perfect and Ollie loved playing in the pumpkin patch while we took a ton of photos of him.
The rest of the event was great, we just roamed around, looking at the different animals that were on the farm – my favorite sign, pictured below, is the most Florida sign I have ever seen with fire ants being listed on it.
They did have food trucks at the Boos and Brews event but the lines were a bit crazy so we decided to head out – we ended up spending a couple hours at Congaree and Penn so we did get to explore most of the grounds. I definitely want to head back when there are not as many people to have dinner at the restaurant because the food looked delicious.
Congaree and Penn Cider
While at the farm we decided to try three different ciders that Congaree and Penn make – let’s take a quick look at the three we tried:
Golden Melon Cider
- Type: Seasonal Cider Made With Golden Watermelons
- ABV: 5.5%
Mena and I loved this one, it was a bit sweet but we didn’t mind at all – 10/10 as far as ciders go!
Tim
Gallberry Honey Cider
- Type: Cider Made With Gallberry Honey
- ABV: 5.5%
A little less sweet than the previous but still a nice and refreshing cider that was enjoyed while walking around Congaree and Penn’s farm.
Tim
Farm Cider
- Type: Cider
- ABV: 4%
Their flagship farm cider was exactly what you’d expect a cider to be – it was light and refreshing and yet another great beverage to sip on during the Boos and Brews event!
Tim
All in all, the Halloween event at Congaree and Penn was a success and we had a blast exploring the farm with Oliver and my mom. Mena and I will be going back as I mentioned above but next time it will be for a date night and we will have dinner reservations!
